Diabetes Foot Pain Can Be Solved

Physically, it is a very painful experience to have diabetes foot pain. You may feel as though you will never have relief. It can be debilitating. There are ways to alleviate pain and sometimes stop the pain altogether.

In worldwide statistics, 16 million people are inflicted with diabetes. Of all of these people, about 25 percent will have foot issues. Foot issues in diabetics can be caused from circulation that is poor and also neuropathy. Diabetic neuropathy is from a desensitized ability to feel pain and heat/cold. Some get little cuts and blisters because of a loss of sensation. When they are not treated properly then ulcers develop and the feet may even have to be amputated as a result. Neuropathy can be the cause of hammer toes, bunions and Charcot Feet. Diabetics need to make sure that they take care of all feet injuries as soon as they happen.

If found out that poor circulation is the cause of diabetes foot pain it is due to peripheral vascular disease. This disease prevents proper blood flow. The arteries can become narrowed and blood ends up flowing too slowly to the lower legs and to the feet. Oxygen and nutrition will not get to the skin and other areas causing injuries to heal improperly. It can also make feet swell and make the fee dry. When poor circulation is due to diabetes, diabetic foot pain needs to be treated. Footwear used to prevent and treat this condition is very important and should not be overlooked as a treatment option.

Diabetic foot care begins with consistent care of the diabetes itself. Control the blood sugar so it will remain normal and work with the doctor to get advice on leading a healthy lifestyle. Make sure that your feet are checked daily. Look for cuts and sores. Pay attention to the toenails. Look for swelling. Ask someone to help you look at them. Call your doctor right away if there are any problems that you see.

Together with these tips just ensure that you wash your feet daily in warm water and do not soak them. Check the temperature of the water first so you know that it is not too hot. Dry them well afterwards and put powder on them and between the toes. Put lotion on your feet. Don’t put it in between your toes so you don’t get infections.

Habitually make every effort to trim your toenails weekly. Diabetes foot pain can be worsened with toenails that are not trimmed. Cut them straight across and file them with a nail file. Another thing to make sure you do is to wear shoes and socks all the time. Do not go barefoot anywhere. You can hurt your feet too easily. Make sure your socks keep your feet dry. Wear shoes that fit properly and keep your feet safe.

Taking active and appropriate steps with these tips you can treat and heal completely diabetic foot pain. With the proper diabetic foot care your feet will be protected and not have problems well into the future. Make sure that you treat diabetes foot pain as soon as it starts and you will have healthy feet for the rest of your life.
