Walking Can Cause Foot Pain

If you like walking a lot then you have probably experienced foot pain at some point. While exercising can help your health, it can cause some great pain and discomfort. This is especially true when you do not wear the correct shoes. While walking is usually very low impact it can easily cause foot pains. These foot pains can be caused by many different things. Foot pain can be from walking itself or incorrect shoes, ingrown toenails, improper posture or a more serious injury.


One way to avoid foot pain is to wear the proper shoes while walking. Everyone’s foot is a little bit different and not all shoes work for everyone. Some are too wide or too narrow and some can make calluses and even painful blisters. Having ingrown toenails or hammertoes can also make a difference in the type of shoe you should wear. Socks can add protection and change how the shoe will fit your foot. Make sure that you are wearing the socks that you will be wearing walking when you try on the shoe. This will ensure proper fitting.

Another helpful tip to prevent foot pain walking is to do warm ups before you go walking. Stretching is key to warming up your body and helping your muscles work properly. This can help shock to your feet. You only need no more than 5 minutes of stretching to be helpful.

Before you go walking you need to drink a lot of water. This helps your body work properly. Also, after you go walking putting your feet up and resting will help alleviate a lot of foot pain. Do not cross your legs because this can cause unneeded pain and stress on your feet. After your walk, soaking your fee in warm water and messaging them can help greatly. Sit back and relax. Help your feet.

If these tips do not help your foot pain then you may need to see a professional. A podiatrist will be able to check your feet for any problems. He can check for issues and also help you with any ingrown toenails. The doctor may have you take some medications. These medications will help if your feet are cramped or tired. Your podiatrist will be able to give you good advice on what medications will alleviate the pain. The podiatrist can also take x-rays if the other options haven’t helped. The x-rays may reveal a deeper problem and the doctor can help you with a treatment plan after the real problem is diagnosed. Very rarely is surgery an option but if the podiatrist recommends surgery then you should head his advice and get the necessary treatment.
